Azam Khan sexism: Sushma Swaraj calls for strict action, says 'repeated remarks prove mental disorder'

Former Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on Friday condemned the sexist remarks made by SP MP Azam Khan on Lok Sabha chair and Deputy Speaker Rama Devi on July 25.

Taking to Twitter, Sushma Swaraj lashed out at the Rampur MP, saying that his such repeated statements prove that he is suffering from a mental disorder. Adding that Khan crossed all the dignity while addressing the woman Speaker in Parliament, she called for a strict punishment against the SP leader. 

"Such repeated statements by Azam Khan prove that he is suffering from a mental disorder. In the Parliament yesterday, while addressing the woman Speaker he crossed the limits of mistreatment. There is a strong demand for parliamentary censorship such that Azam Khan is severely punished," wrote the former EAM in the tweet.

Smriti Irani slams Azam Khan

In a strong-pitched statement, Textiles Minister Smriti Irani on Friday slammed the sexist statements made by Azam Khan on Lok Sabha Chair Rama Devi, appealing the MPs to stand united to issue punishment for the SP MP over his 'Aankho Mein Aankh' remark.

"Not being a woman, not being a women MP, but being a Parliamentarian, I appeal the entire house to send the message that a woman can be from any party, the privilege of the House will not be misused to insult a woman," Irani said. 

Azam Khan's Sexist Remarks at LS Chair

On Thursday, the Lok Sabha witnessed uproar amid the Triple Talaq Bill debate when SP MP Azam Khan made sexist remarks at Lok Sabha chair Rama Devi. 

"I really like you so much that I feel like keep looking into your eyes. I feel like never taking my eyes off you," Azam Khan said talking to the Lok Sabha chair. (Aap mujhe itni achi lagti hai ki aapke aankho main aankhe dale rahu ye mera man karta hai. Main kabhi na nazar haatau aapse. Aap kitni acchi jagah baithi hai.)

Akhilesh Yadav defends his leader

While Azam Khan made the filthy remarks at Rama Devi, SP chief president Akhilesh Yadav grinned and asked him to continue to speak amid chaos in the Lok Sabha. Later, defending his party leader, Akhilesh Yadav said that there was nothing disgraceful or intentional on what Azam Khan said.
