In a jolt to Mehbooba Mufti, founding PDP member Mohammed Khalil Bandh resigned from his primary membership of the party and post of district President of Pulwama on Wednesday. In a letter to the PDP chief, Khalil Bandh said that the party had "upended" following the demise of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.
In the letter, he also said that the old/elected/experienced lot was not only neglected but humiliated to the core, adding that a few men have shaped a disaster against the party.
"A party isn't worth continuing when the basic and founding principles are compromised, elected representatives are treated like naive men with a minuscule authority both within the government and otherwise," Mohammed Khalil Bandh said in his resignation letter addressed to Mufti.

Mohammed Khalil Bandh is a three-time MLA and two-time cabinet minister in Jammu and Kashmir government. He won the Pulwama assembly seat for the PDP ticket in 2002, 2008 and 2014 assembly elections. After the collapse of the PDP-BJP coalition government on June 19, 2018, a series of resignations from PDP leaders has hit Mehbooba Mufti. At least 10 former ministers and legislators have left the party since last year.
Meanwhile, Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have been delayed to the end of this year. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, earlier in June, said that the Centre has started preparations for the assembly elections in the state which may be held by the end of this year.
"In the view of Ramzan and Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir, preparations are underway to hold assembly elections by the end of this year," Amit Shah had said in Lok Sabha.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP failed to win even a single seat in the state, losing all the six seats to BJP and NC-Congress alliance, which won three seats each. Mehbooba Mufti embarrassingly lost the Anantnag constituency to NC leader Hasnain Masoodi.
