It appears that the political climate might change in Bihar as Lalu Prasad Yadav's RJD has softened its stand against Janata Dal (United) chief and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. The party seems to be sending overtures to him and also said that the gathbandhan was unhappy when Nitish's party separated.

Speculation arose again after Abdul Bari Siddiqui, an RJD MLA, met with Nitish Kumar for around fifteen minutes on Sunday at his Alinanagar residence in Darbhanga. He spoke to Republic TV about the brief yet significant encounter with the Bihar CM.

As per sources, mistrust has increased between the BJP and JD(U) and there are talks that the two alliance partners may pull the plug soon. Senior RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh in his interview to Republic TV around a month ago had made an open offer to the Bihar CM to join the gathbandhan again. After Raghuvansh, Siddiqui second leader to send an olive branch towards Nitish, sources. ​​As per sources, Lalu Prasad Yadav desperately wants Nitish back in the gathbandhan fold given RJD's decimation in the state.

Speaking about the meeting with the chief minister, Siddiqui said:

"He had come for inspection of flood relief in Darbhanga and I thank him for helping us by coming to our flood-affected area. I invited him for tea after his visit. We all felt bad when Nitish Kumar left the gathbandhan and joined hands with BJP," he said. He added he hoped of Nitish coming back to the coalition, "I had even said in the Vidhan Sabha that sooner or later the socialist in him may awaken."

Siddiqui's statement has come a day after Sushil Modi announced that they will fight the next assembly election under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. The RJD has been going soft on Nitish in the Vidhan Sabha proceedings after the Lok Sabha poll debacle. Even the leader of opposition Tejashwi Yadav who used to be aggressive against Kumar has taken a backseat. This turn of events began after the JDU leader decided not to have a symbolic representation of having one cabinet berth in Modi's cabinet despite having 16 Lok Sabha seats.
