Even as the row over Congress leader Shashi Tharoor’s ‘Hindu Pakistan’ remark has intensified, the BJP escalated its attack on the Congress party and said that there could be nothing as abominable and objectionable for the country as Tharoor’s statement. While addressing a press conference, BJP National Spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra demanded an explanation and apology from the Congress President, Rahul Gandhi for his party leader’s statement.

“Rahul Gandhi will have to explain as to how his party leaders have been denigrating the beauty of this beautiful country. We demand an apology from Rahul Gandhi,” said Dr Patra.

“Shashi Tharoor’s comment that if BJP forms government in 2019, India will become ‘Hindu Pakistan’, I believe nothing could be as defamatory and objectionable for the country. Mr Rahul Gandhi, such kind of abuses for the Indian democracy, which your leaders have been using has become a constant feature as far as Congress party is concerned. As far as this statement is concerned, this is not an ordinary statement. You have attacked the Indian democracy and Hindus by using the term ‘Hindu Pakistan’,” he added.

Dr Patra also accused Rahul Gandhi of hating “Hindus".

“Rahul ji, you have started hating Indians and also are disgusted with the Hindus of the country. Rahul Gandhi is the same person who coined the term ‘Hindu terror’ in 2008. While speaking to the US Ambassador, he had said he is not frightened of the LeT, he is frightened of ‘Hindu terror’ instead. Following suit, P Chidambaram and Sushil Kumar Shinde had propagated the tem and had accused the RSS of running a terror  factory. The very next day, Pakistani newspapers had carried the news and said they stand by the Congress statement,” said the BJP national spokesperson.

Dr Sambit Patra also accused the Congress leaders of indulging in politics of negativity through their statements instilling fear in the minds of countrymen.

“Congress has this habit that while hating PM Modi and the BJP, they cross the line and become anti-India. A few days age, Rahul Gandhi attacked Indian democracy while commenting on surgical strikes. He also used the term ‘Khoon ki dalali’ while attacking the Indian Army. Ghulam Nabi Azab in an interview had said that Indian Army is murdering civilians. He even went all-out against the Indian Army on the basis of the fake UN report. Mani Shankar Aiyar went a step ahead and said in Pakistan’s soil that Modi government has to be demolished. Saifuddin Soz stood with Pervez Musharraf's statement and said Kashmiris need Azadi. The way the Congress party is rolling down the hill, we want to warn Rahul Gandhi that this is not a sign of healthy politics. Attacking the Indian Army, attacking the Constitution, what kind of politics is this? Rahul Gandhi and his party leaders have been instilling fear among the people,” has said Dr Patra.

Further slamming Shashi Tharoor and the Congress, the BJP leader said that only a party like Congress can have the audacity of comparing India with terror state Pakistan.

“Shashi Tharoor is the same person who called the citizens of India ‘cattle class’, he is again ‘cattle-classing’ the Indian democracy.  Shashi Tharoor ji, you want to express your affection towards Pakistanis, do that. But, don’t hate Indians. How can you compare India with Pakistan? Pakistan is terroristan, it encourages terrorism. Only the Congress can show such audacity of comparing India to Pakistan,” said Dr Patra.

Dr Patra also alleged that the anti-India statements by the Congress is garnering them the support of Pakistan and terror outfits.

“A few days ago, when Ghulam Nabi Azad was speaking against the Indian Army, who certified it? The LeT and Hafiz Saeed himself certified the Congress statement. If you continue to issue such statements, only Hafiz Saeed and Pakistan will be your fans.  The hatred towards Hindus led Digvijaya Singh to say that 26/11 was RSS’ conspiracy. Rahul ji, this fancy dress of wearing janeu can be carried for a few days as you cannot do away with the Congress’ policy of appeasement,” said Dr Patra.

Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor courted massive controversy after saying should the BJP come into power in 2019, the democratic constitution of India would cease to survive and India would turn into a "Hindu Pakistan".

"Because all the three elements they need to tear up the constitution of India and write a new one. And that will be a new one that will enshrine the principle of a Hindu Rashtra, that will remove equality for the minorities, that will create a Hindu Pakistan," said Tharoor while addressing a gathering at Thiruvananthapuram.

Later, while issuing a statement on Facebook, Tharoor remained brazen and defended his statement saying,""BJP/RSS idea of a Hindu rashtra would be the mirror image of Pakistan-- a state with a dominant majority religion that seeks to put its minorities in a subordinate place... That would be a Hindu Pakistan, and it is not what our freedom movement fought for, nor the idea of India enshrined in our Constitution".
