After his formal induction ceremony, the General explained that the Prime Minister’s leadership and strong stance on defence is the main reason for his joining the party:

“After 39 years of service, when I retired, I never thought that I would join politics. But, after recent events, I have realised that our country is in a peculiar situation. We need to project ourselves as a strong nation and we need a leader who can show strength. Basing this, I was inspired by our Prime Minister and I decided to do whatever I can to help him lead our country.”

Speaking of his experience under three defence ministers – Manohar Parrikar, Arun Jaitley and Nirmala Sitharaman, he detailed BJP’s contribution to the nation’s defence saying:

"No other political party has done as much as the BJP for defence. Hence it has become a natural choice for any fauji. I don’t expect anything in return to my service. I hope that they (BJP) come to power and I can contribute in that.”

Thanking all his soldiers serving at Gadwal regiment, he also mentioned MLA Ganesh Joshi from the Mussoorie constituency in Dehradun as another inspiration which urged him to join the Party.

This comes days before the Lok Sabha elections which will take place in seven phases for all the 29 states and seven Union Territories beginning from April 11 to May 7, 2019.

The results will be announced on May 23, 2019.
