Union Minister MJ Akbar, accused by women journalists of sexual harassment in a spiraling #MeToo movement, will be returning back from his foreign tour on Sunday. A call on continuation of his duties will be taken by the government after his return. MJ Akbar was scheduled to return on Friday, however, sources indicated that he, along with others in the delegation, is currently in Malabo of Equatorial Guinea, Central Africa. Now, the minister will be back on Sunday.

MJ Akbar has been called out by as many as 10 women. These ladies took to social media and other forms of media to let the country know about the harassment they had faced by the present Minister of State for External Affairs when he was working as a journalist.

Following all the allegations against the Mos for External Affairs, sources have told Republic TV that MJ Akbar's position may well be under scrutiny, and that the government may act against him.

Condemning MJ Akbar on the allegations levelled against him, DCW chief Swati Maliwal said:

"Seven complainants have come out and spoken against MJ Akbar’s sexual assaults. I have read some of their stories they are really horrific. That man doesn't deserve to be a MoS. I don’t think that this man should give resignation. The PM should ensure that this man is removed from his post with immediate effect. An independent investigation should happen and he should be put behind bars. How is it that he continues to be in Centre? I would appeal to the PM that if he really believes in ‘Beti Bachao beti padhao’ then he must ensure that his own govt should be free from such predators".

"It is good that RSS has supported #MeToo. I would appeal to all the organizations to come out and support this campaign. I also appeal to all political parties and government to support the campaign. It started a year back in other parts of the world but it took one year for it to start here due to our patriarchal mindset. I would request to all women who are facing this should come out and open up", she added.
