The BJP has taken an almighty sarcastic line on Robert Vadra's big proclamation on Sunday, wherein the husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, famously a 'private citizen' for so long, signalled his intention to formally join politics.
On its official Twitter handle, the BJP has hailed Vadra as the Congress' Prime Ministerial candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, adding via a hashtag that he is ready.
Vadra made his intentions clear via a post on his Facebook page - his preferred means of communication - through which he essentially claimed three things:
Here is the full text of his post:
More than a decade of different governments trying to malign me, using n highlighting my name to divert real issues of the country.
People of the country gradually realised this Modus n knew there was no truth in any of these allegations. People reach out n show respect n wish me luck n a better future.
I sustained n kept strong by learning from the children I helped. From the blind school, to mother Teresa’s missions, to serving at orphanages n when visiting different faiths n places of worship, n feeding hungry ppl outside hospitals, temples.
Disaster managements n sending help to Kerala, Nepal and other places too, were a satisfying n learning experience.
Now with my visits to the Enforcement Directorate in Delhi n Rajasthan, almost 8 visits, of many hours and since I have always adhered to rules n surely not above the law, I have been a person to learn from every event I go through.
The years n months that I spent campaigning n working in different parts of the country, but mainly in UP, gave me a feeling to do more for the people n make smaller changes possible by me, in their areas n when they got to know me, the genuine love, affection n respect I earned was humbling ...
All these years of experience n learning cannot be just wasted and should be put to better use... once all these accusations n allegations are over, I feel I should dedicate a larger role in serving the people.... 🙏
There have been several signals over the past few months that Vadra may formally join the Congress and perhaps even contest elections. He had highlighted his own spiritual undertakings on his Facebook, while during his questioning by the ED, the Congress party began to use his photos in its posters. The period has also coincided with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joining the Congress as its General Secretary in Uttar Pradesh East.
