BJP's Baijayant 'Jay' Panda seeks NRC for Odisha, praises Tejasvi Surya's effort to demand NRC for Karnataka in Parliament

A day after Tejasvi Surya, MP from Bengaluru South said in the Parliament that National Register of Citizens (NRC) is required for the state of Karnataka, National Vice president of BJP Baijayant 'Jay' Panda said that it is needed for the state of Odisha as well. On Wednesday, speaking in the Lower house of the Parliament, Surya had said that Centre should implement the NRC in the state "to weed out" the illegal immigrants because not only a security threat but also a threat to locals as they compete for jobs. Appluading the young leader for raising correct issues in the Parliament and said that NRC is needed for Odisha as well becaus there is a huge influx of immigrants specially in coastal districts. He also added that he had sought and succefully gotten the Coast Guard coverage but NRC is needed now. Center has currently implemented NRC in the state of Assam. 

In response of the applaud by Jay Panda, Surya said that he has been a follower of the parliamentary work of the leader since ages. He also sid that under Home Minister Amit Shah country's sovereign interests will be porotected. he also compared him to Sardar Patel.

Demand for detention centre for illegal immigrants in Karnataka 

Interestingly, the demand for a detention of illegal immigrants is not new. The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, confirmed it on July 2 in a written response to a question asked by PC Mohan - BJP MP from the Bangalore Central constituency, on whether the state of Karnataka was establishing any detention centre to hold ‘illegal immigrants’. He said that the state government “has informed (the Centre) that they are in the process of establishing a detention/holding centre”.

Rai also had admitted that while Karnataka government has no accurate data on the number of ‘illegal immigrants’ residing in India as they enter “in a clandestine and surreptitious manner", but he quoted the information from the MHA from the Karnataka government to say that, “143 cases have been registered against illegal Bangladeshi nationals” in the state and “144 illegal Bangladeshi nationals have been deported” from the state.
