Backing the bizarre suggestion by Yoga Guru Ramdev, BJP MP-elect from Bihar's Begusarai Giriraj Singh said that people must read Ramdev's comment in a positive light. His comment comes a day after Patanjali founder Ramdev said that

Speaking to news agency ANI, Singh said that India needs a law to control the population. He added that population control will lead to the development of the country.

Earlier on Sunday, May 26,  the Patanjali founder had claimed that by introducing a law that the third child would not be allowed to vote nor contest an election, neither be given any type of privileges and government facilities, India's population may come under control.

"India's population should not be more than 150 crores in the next 50 years as we are not prepared or ready to bear more than that. This is only possible when the government makes a law that third child would not be allowed to vote, neither contest election nor he/she enjoys any type of privileges and facilities given by the government," he said at a press conference in Haridwar, Uttarakhand according to ANI.

In January this year, the Yoga guru suggested a similar plan to the government. Expressing concern over the rising population in the country, Ramdev at an event in Aligarh in January, said:

"To control population of the country, voting rights, jobs and treatment facilities should be taken away from people who give birth to more than two kids and whether they are Hindus or Muslims. Then only the population will be controlled."

He also explained his claim in conversation with Republic Media Network's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami on his debate - 'Poochta hai Bharat' on Monday May 27. He addressed Gharib Nawaz Chairman Ansar Raza and asked him to rise above religion and realize the problems of overpopulation before commenting against his (Ramdev) idea to counter it.

"If more kids are born, we do not have adequate schools, colleges, hospitals. Just think where will we be able to get food for these children? Rise above your Quran and religion. It is not written anywhere in the Quran either that one should have more children. It is written in the Quran that one should live life honestly serving the nation. What kind of unnecessary things are you getting tangled in Ansar Raza Saab?" he asked.
