'BJP's membership drive is a medium to expand reach and make the party inclusive': BJP president Amit Shah

Amit Shah, addressing a meeting of BJP's state in-charges for the membership drive in the party head office in Delhi, said the party has won 2019 general elections but it is yet to reach its peak.

BJP president Amit Shah on Monday said the aim of the party's membership drive is to expand its reach and make it inclusive so that it reaches people from all walks of life. Addressing a meeting of party's state in-charges for the membership drive in the party head office in Delhi, he said the BJP has won 2019 general elections but it is yet to reach its peak.

"The drive is a medium to make the party inclusive, which reaches the people from all walks of life", Mr Shah was quoted in a BJP statement.

He said that in the coming three years the party will adopt all possible measures to expand its base.

The BJP which has 11 crore members has set the target of increasing its membership by at least 20 per cent.

BJP on Monday has appointed former Health Minister and Rajya Sabha MP, Jagat Pratap Nadda as the party's working president, in the presence of PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. BJP leaders Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Thawarchand Gehlot, Nitish Gadkari, and other major leaders were also present for the appointment. The post was previously held by Amit Shah who has recently been sworn-in the Modi cabinet.

Meanwhile, JP Nadda is the 11th President of the national party (though he is the first Working President, as per records) as he takes over the reins from Amit Shah. The former Union Minister was a member of Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh and Parliamentary Board Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party. Earlier, he was a Minister in Himachal Pradesh Government.
