Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) and present Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukul Roy has attacked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the Majerhat bridge collapse, claiming she and her party are to be held responsible for the incident which has injured at least six people till now.

On Tuesday afternoon, a part of the 40-year-old Marjerhat bridge collapsed, with many people and vehicles feared to be trapped underneath it. The WB government promised to order a probe into this incident.

But the politics over this issue has already begun, with Mukul Roy putting the blame on Mamata and her party. He said, "State Government and CM is responsible for this bridge collapse. They are saying beautification of city is on, but repair work of old constructions is not on her mind. State govt should take complete responsibility of this collapse."

Soon after the bridge came down thundering into the ground, TMC chief and WB CM Mamata Banerjee stated that an investigation into this incident has been ordered. She said, "Rescue operation is on. I have ordered an investigation. We will take all measures to ensure rescue operations are smooth. We will discuss how it happened later, first we have to provide immediate relief."

"We are very worried. We are receiving information from the rescue team on ground (Majerhat bridge collapse in Kolkata). We want to go back as soon as possible. There are no flights in the evening, we are unable to do so. Our team is focused on relief and rescue work. Our priority is relief and rescue. Rest of the investigation will be done later," she was further quoted by ANI as saying.

The collapse took place in afternoon, at a time of the day when the area is said to be crowded. First visuals of the collapsed bridge showed a section of the flyover having cleanly collapsed, with the vehicles that were likely on it at that time that it fell still on hand.
