The completion of one year of the ruling TRS in Telangana in its second term has been marked by failures on various fronts and unfulfilled promises, the opposition Congress, BJP, TDP and others alleged on Friday.

State Congress president and Lok Sabha member N Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that Telangana has witnessed rapes, murders, suicides and mounting debt in the last one year

As many as 26 students of Intermediate (XI and XII) had committed suicide due to government's failure in conducting examinations, he said in a statement.

The recent gang-rape and murder of a woman veterinarian, preceded by a woman Tahsildar being burnt alive in her office and other incidents of crimes against women saw Telangana losingits prestige in the country, he alleged.

The Congress had handed over Telangana as a rich state to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (2014),but it has become bankrupt now due his inefficient policies, Reddy alleged.

He demanded to know why Rao, who was now talking about financial discipline, did not remember it when he planned to construct new buildings for Secretariat and the legislature.

The Congress leader also asked what had happened to the election promises of farm loan waiver and financial assistance to the unemployed youth.

State BJP president K Laxman also alleged that the ruling TRS has betrayed people by not implementing its promises, including double bedroom houses for the poor, filling up vacant government posts, providing allowance to the unemployed youth and loan waiver for farmers.

Telangana, once a revenue surplus state, has become debt ridden due to the 'wrong economic policies' and 'mishandling' of the situation by Rao, the BJP leader told reporters.

"The situation is such that the (TRS) MPs are not in a position to say why the Chief Minister opposed the Citizenship Amendment Bill in parliament," he said.

The Telangana unit of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) staged a protest here against the 'failures' of the TRS government.

Dismissing the charges, TRS MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said the TRS government has increased financial assistance under social security pensions and Rythu Bandhu investment support scheme for farmers despite the economic slowdown.

In the irrigation sector, the Kaleswaram project, one of the largest irrigation schemes, was now a reality and more than 200 TMC of water is available even in December, he said.

About 36,000 personnel have been employed in villages to guide rural areas towards development, he said.

The mood of the people was reflected in the resounding victory of TRS in the bypoll to Huzurnagar Assembly constituency, the TRS leader said.

On the law and order front, the government acted swiftly in the rape and murder of woman veterinarian by arresting the accused immediately and the state government also came in for praise in Parliament, he added.
