The Congress party resorted to yet another attack at Centre over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'One Nation, One Constitution' remarks on Jammu and Kashmir integration on Independence Day on Thursday. Taking to Twitter, Sonia Gandhi-led Congress party claimed that PM Modi and the BJP-led government has "ripped" one nation-one Constitution to shreds. It went on to fearmonger that the manner in which Article 370 was abrogated and the erstwhile state of J&K was dismembered is "deplorable".

PM Modi on One Nation, One Constitution

Addressing the nation on the occasion of Independence Day, PM Modi hailed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill 2019, with which Jammu and Kashmir is divided into two Union Territories - J&K and Ladakh. He further expressed pride in the undoing a 70-year wrong within 70 days of the formation of his new government in its second term. The Prime Minister asserted that with the recent developments in J&K and integration of the erstwhile state into India, Indians can now say 'One Nation One Constitution'.

"Our forefathers who wrote the Constitution during the time of Independence had to take a lot of tough decisions for the integration of India. But because of article 370 and 35A, there were a lot of hurdles. Today, as I address the nation from the Red Fort, every citizen can proudly say 'One nation One Constitution'," PM Modi had said.

Congress echoes Pakistan tunes on J&K matter

On August 13, Congress general secretary UP (East), Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had termed the passing of Jammu And Kashmir (Reorganisation) Bill 2019 as "unconstitutional", adding that "the party has always fought for the rights in a democracy". Furthermore, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi had also tweeted earlier, saying that J&K Reorganisation Bill is violating the Constitution.
