Congress demands Maharashtra government to reduce prices of petrol, diesel by Rs 10

With each passing day, the prices of petrol and diesel are touching new heights in the country. Every state and UT has faced the brunt, but Maharashtra seems to be the worst affected, with petrol crossing the Rs 90-mark. Many areas in the state like Parbhani and Nanded have witnessed the price of petrol going past Rs 91.

The increase in the price of oil has also resulted in the increase in the price of essential food items. Citizens across the country, especially in Maharashtra, have been pleading and requesting the government to take immediate measures to tackle the situation.

One of those who have piled the pressure on the present government is the Congress party. They conducted a Bharat Bandh earlier this month over the raising prices of petrol and diesel. And now, they are set to put further pressure with a new set of demand.

Maharastra Congress MLA and former state minister, Nasim Khan has written a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, asking him to reduce the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 10. In his letter, the Congress leader states: 

"As you know, due to fuel price hike, the anger of people is increasing day by day. The price of fuel has touched the sky. In Maharastra the price of petrol is Rs 92 per litre and diesel is Rs 82 per litre. Government of Rajastan and Karnataka have felt the pain of common man and they cut the price of fuel in their states by Rs 4 and 2 respectively. Like these states Maharastra should also cut the price by Rs 10."

According to Nasim Khan, the cut of Rs 10 is possible. He says, "if Maharastra government also reduce fuel price by Rs 2 or 4, then it will not work in the state because the price of petrol and diesel have been increasing almost daily. The relief of Rs 2 or 4 will be covered in a week time. That’s why the relief in fuel price cut will be at least 10 rupees". 

Devendra Fadnavis is yet to reply to the letter. Meanwhile, sources in the Maharastra government have told the Republic TV that in next GST council meeting, Fadnavis government will demand to bring petrol and diesel in GST.
