In another setback for Congress in Maharashtra as MLA, Nirmala Gavit has quit the party and jumped the ship to Shiv Sena.
Nirmala Gavit, a legislator from Maharashtra's Igatpuri, which has been a Congress stronghold in the state. According to reports, Gavit has already quit the grand old party and is set to join Shiv Sena ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls later this year.
Though the official joining process remains, Gavit has been in talks and even met senior Shiv Sena leader and Cabinet Minister Eknath Shinde, according to sources. In addition, Gavit's husband who is also a politician will be joining the saffron party as well.
Gavit is the daughter of veteran Congress leader Manikrao Gavit who himself has been a nine-time parliamentarian and a two-time minister in Maharashtra. Mahale, who was with Shiv Sena earlier, made his comeback in the saffron party in the presence of chief Uddhav Thackery.
Earlier, NCP politician Sanjay Ahir too joined the Shiv Sena. These developments have come ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections which are scheduled to take place later this year. As per sources, Sachin Ahir had held a meeting of his supporters and expressed his views on taking the big step soon in his political journey.
