Outspoken Congress leader and former Law Minister Hansraj Bharadwaj has said that Rahul Gandhi is not a leader until he gets the mandate of the people. He also criticised the brand of 'religious vote-bank' politics played by his party.
Bharadwaj has said that Rahul is hardly the leader is needs to be. "What kind of a leader is Rahul? Rahul hasn’t received any official position in the party. He will realise when he gets a serious position.
""Rahul is still learning. He will become a leader when people make him one. People have to elect you to become a leader. But he is the Congress president, but he needs to win elections," Bharadwaj said.
We forced Rahul into politics. If people don’t accept you as a leader you can’t become one. We asked Rajiv to contest after Indira died, he contested and won elections and won over 400 seats. Nobody in politics is trained, neither Rajiv nor Indira, went they fought elections, they won the heart of the people.,"he said.
He also said that Congress playing religious vote bank is hurting the party. "Whoever takes advantage of religion is wrong. What’s Rahul is doing is wrong. This is why Congress fails, when they get into politics of religion. Nehru, Indira Rajiv never used religion for votes. We never do something for religion by hurting other religions's sentiment."
The former law minister has often criticised the party and commented on its leaders in the past. He had alleged in 2015 that the party had asked him to influence the judiciary when he was the Law Minister for UPA in a case.
The BJP has reacted to the comment saying Rahul will certainly ensure his party's doom by playing religious politics.
BJP spokeperson Gaurav Bhatia speaking about Rahul Gandhi he said that that someone who does not know his basics has been made a leader of the party. He also said Congress is playing divisive politics.
"It is not just the old guard who does not have faith in his leadership, the youth of the country also does ot faith in the leadership. He has ensurd the loss of the Congress. Thirty one polls have been lost under his leadership. How can such a person be chosen as a leader. And the one leading the party he does not know difference between Chhatisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. He is yet to establish himself as a leader. With the divisive and communal politics of Congress, the day is not far away when Congress is decimated and wiped off," he said.
