After being snubbed by the BSP-SP alliance in Uttar Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi is now gearing up to plan Congress' next move.
He said, "There has been a gathbandhan in UP. They have taken a decision, it is their choice. But, we too now have to take action. We have to fight the elections with strength and aggression and we will do that. The result will surprise the people."
Speaking of 'Mahagathbandhan' the Congress president claimed that the situation differs with each state, and as far as the SP-BSP alliance in UP is concerned it is not a setback, because 'BJP is set to get no seat there'
He said, "The situation is different in each and every state--Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Bihar and other states are witnessing effective gathbandhans being formed one after another. So, that won't be a problem. I won't term UP SP-BSP alliance as a setback because even if Mayawati and Akhilesh ally or we three come together, BJP is set to get no seat there."
The Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, who confirmed an alliance for the upcoming elections on Saturday, announced that they have decided to reject Rahul Gandhi and his party, stating them coming to power is equivalent to BJP coming back to power.
Speaking at the joint press briefing, BSP chief Mayawati said, "We have not included Congress despite knowing that since independence, Congress has only ruled for a long time. Farmers and different sections of society have suffered, corruption was at a high. Congress coming to power and BJP coming to power is tantamount to the same. Both parties have been complicit in Defence scams. First Bofors cost the Congress party its government and now, BJP will suffer a similar fate because of the Rafale scam. Votes don't transfer when allying with Congress, they go to BJP instead, hence we're not including it in our alliance."
Following that, the seat-sharing formula for the upcoming elections was announced, which sees SP and BSP fighting in 38 seats each in the 80 Lok Sabha seats. Out of the remaining four seats, the gathbandhan has set aside two for their allies (not yet disclosed), while they have decided to not fight in the other two (Rae Bareli and Amethi that are held by UPA chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi), leaving them vacant for the Congress.
