In a continuing exodus trend for the Congress, two more high level Congress committee leaders - UP Congress Committee Secretary Ajay Saraswat 'Soni' and Scheduled Castes department chief of the Congress Committee Nitin Raut, have resigned on Monday, claiming responsibility for the party's Lok Sabha loss after Congress chief Rahul Gandhi had expressed displeasure with senior leaders for not owning their role in the party's dismal election performance.

WATCH: Amid Mass Exodus, Congress' Anand Singh Resigns Over Ministry Post, As Per Sources

Earlier in the day, Vijayanagar MLA Anand Singh has resigned from his Karnataka Assembly on Monday, submitting his resignation to Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar, as per sources, presumably because he was not happy with the party since he was not given a ministerial post in the recent state cabinet expansion.

Previously on Friday, in a move of mass resignation, almost 80 Congress members resigned from their posts  'in honour and respect of Rahul Gandhi' as stated in their resignation letters. On the same day, the Congress dissolved all its 280 block committees in the national capital, as decided by the Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit. Following this development, Congress also dissolved its Telangana block committee which had 120 members.

But on Sunday, PC Chacko stayed the decision take by Dikshit after a faction of Congress leaders met him. He also sent copies of his letter to Sheila Dikshit and Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

After More Than 200 Resignations In Congress, Youth Wing Releases Statement Saying Rahul Gandhi Never Asked Top Leadership To Quit

Following this development, BJP rebel Nana Patole had resigned as the party's Kisan Congress President and  Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pratap Singh Bajwa who resigned from his post of Vice-Chairman, AICC stating the same reasons saying that it was in honour of Rahul Gandhi's decision which will give him a free hand to make decisions.

The entire 'resignation and responsibility' saga started on Thursday when sources reported that Rahul Gandhi was upset with senior leaders of the party as despite him tendering his resignation no senior leader came forward to take the responsibility of the party's failure in the Lok Sabha.

Following this immediately, Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath came forward to take responsibility while Vivek Tankha - the party's Dept chairman Law, RTI & HR, and Rajya Sabha MP for Madhya Pradesh quit his post.

As of date over 200, Congress leaders have resigned 'owning up to their Lok Sabha loss as per Rahul Gandhi's wishes' which prompted the Youth Congress to release a statement saying Rahul Gandhi never asked for resignations from top leadership.

The party has  been entangled in a leadership turmoil since Rahul Gandhi offered his resignation as Congress Chief during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on May 25, as the Congress managed to secure only 52 seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections which also saw Gandhi lose his bastion -Amethi, to BJP leader Smriti Irani.
