Finally the MLAs are back where they belong. The 44 Gujarat Congress MLAs who were lodging at the Eagleton resort near Bengaluru returned back to Gujarat in order to cast their votes in the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls. They reached the Bengaluru airport in the wee hours of Monday to catch a flight back to Gujarat.
Congress MP DK Suresh on Sunday had said that the Gujarat Congress is united and that all the 44 MLAs are ready to vote for Ahmed Patel in the Rajya Sabha elections slated for August 8. “Gujarat Congress is united, MLAs want to vote Ahmed Patel and will get back seat of Congress,” said Suresh.
The Congress cadre looked rather upbeat as Ahmed Patel said he’s confident about the polls. “I am confident that we will win . All MLAs are with us . On 8th will say more about it,” said Patel. Shaktisinh Gohil, an MLA who was at the Eagleton resort said that the Congress MLAs are now more united than ever. “We have refused to take 15 crore as bribe . We are here to save democracy,” said Gohil.
The MLAs at the Eagleton resort had a retreat of sorts as they enjoyed Karaoke nights and resort luxuries while the state was reeling under severe floods. The MLAs come back amidst heavy security as over 95 security personnel along with over 10 IPS officers are deployed for the security of the MLAs.
