Congress replaces Divya Spandana with Rohan Gupta as social media head

Congress on Saturday relaced Divya Spandana with Rohan Gupta as the chairperson of its social media department. Spandana has been incommunicado since June 2019

The Congress party on Saturday relaced Divya Spandana with Rohan Gupta as the chairperson of its social media department. The position was earlier headed by former MP Divya Spandana. In a statement issued by the AICC, it announced the appointment of Rohan Gupta as the new chairperson of the social media department with immediate effect. Earlier, Rohan Gupta served as a media coordinator for the party. He also headed the social media department of Gujarat Congress

"Congress president has appointed Rohan Gupta as the new chairperson of the social media department with immediate effect," official communication from the party said.

Taking to Twitter, Rohan Gupta extended gratitude to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi for appointing him at the post. He also changed his Twitter bio, which now says "Chairman, Social Media Department Indian National Congress".

Divya Spandana goes incommunicado

In June 2019, Divya Spandana aka Ramya, who served as the head of the Congress social media wing logged off her Twitter account. While her Twitter account did not display any tweets, her Twitter bio also did not mention her as head of social media of the Congress party. Later, she went incommunicado and has not come into the limelight since then. Sources had told news agency ANI, that she parted ways with the Grand Old party. However, no official confirmation was given from the party.

Congress prepares for elections

This development has come weeks ahead of the assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. The state assembly elections are scheduled to take place on October 21 for both Maharashtra and Haryana, while the counting of votes will take place on October 21. In Maharashtra, Congress party is contesting in alliance with Sharad Pawar-led NCP who have announced a seat-sharing arrangement stating that both parties will contest on 125 seats each. In Haryana, Congress recently appointed former Union Minister Kumari Selja as the state unit party President, replacing Ashok Tanwar.
