The Congress and BJP's war of words escalated beyond the data theft premise on Monday as Randeep Surjewala traded a barb with union minister Smriti Irani harkening back to Rahul Gandhi's speech at the Congress' plenary where he compared the Congress vs BJP fight to the Pandavas vs Kauravas from the Mahabharata.

Posting a screenshot of the Information and Broadcasting minister's tweet that used popular cartoon 'Chhota Bheem' to attack the Congress president over 'snooping', Surjewala wrote:

"Ohh Ms Irani! But Kauravas wouldn't remember that Bheem represented the righteous Pandavas!"

He followed that up with a jibe alleging that the BJP is anti-Dalit:

"Also, those who persecuted Rohith Vemula & denigrate Babasaheb "Bhimrao's" legacy everyday can only set this level of discourse!"

Charges of data breaches and theft have been traded between the Congress and the BJP ever since the Cambridge Analytica data theft scandal broke that showed that the company had illegally mined data of about 50 million people from Facebook in an effort to aid the Trump campaign during the 2016 US Presidential elections. Union Law and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had taken the Congress on, alleging that the party had hired Cambridge Analytica's website. Later, the Congress counter-alleged that the BJP was making use of such services.

Rahul Gandhi has since alleged that the Prime Minister's app sends data on its users to American companies, while the BJP has taken on the Congress' app, which has vanished from the app store at a suspicious time.
