Days after joining Congress, Kirti Azad exposes his own party; claims workers had looted polling booths

Two days after joining Congress, cricketer-turned-politician Kirti Azad said that the workers of the Rahul Gandhi-led party had looted polling booths for him and his late father during the late 90s, when EVMs were not introduced in the electoral system. Kirti Azad's, late father Bhagwat Jha Azad was a member of the Congress cabinet led by former PM Indira Gandhi, and had served as the Chief Minister of Bihar in the 1980s. 

"In those days booths were looted, Congress workers used to loot polling booths for Nagendra ji (former Congress leader). Booths were looted for my father as well and In 1999, for me also, EVMs had not been introduced then. It was not a big deal back then," he said while addressing a rally in Darbhanga, Bihar on February 19.

Retaliating over Kirti Azad's remarks on 'Congress workers looting polling booths', BJP spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra lashed out at party president Rahul Gandhi on social media, asking whether agenda of 'looting' is the reason why Rahul Gandhi wants the EVM out of 2019 polls. 

"The Congress Workers looted polling booth for My father,for Nagendra Baba ..for me too in 1999 ..those days booth loot was possible ..nowadays it’s not possible because of EVM” says Kirti Azad in Darbhanga Friends isn’t this the very reason @RahulGandhi wants EVM out ?" Sambit Patra wrote on Twitter.

Former BJP MP Kirti Azad was inducted into Bihar Congress by party chief Rahul Gandhi. A two-term MP from Darbhanga, Mr Azad who had been associated with the BJP for over a decade was suspended from the party in 2015.
