Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman to celebrate Diwali with jawans in Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Dibang District

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman is going to celebrate Diwali 2018, with the Indian troops deployed in the forward posts along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Upper Dibang District in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday.

During her two-day visit to the Spear Corps Zone in the north-east, Sitharaman will be briefed about the defence preparedness and infrastructure improvements by the Army in the region. She will be accompanied by Eastern Army Commander and other senior officials. She would also be meeting and interacting with the families of the martyrs among others.

On Tuesday, the Defence Minister reached the Chabua town of Dibrugarh district in the state of Assam, where she met veterans forces and celebrated Diwali with them.

She is going to flyover the general area and visit two security posts in Anini and Andrala Omkar in Dibang Valley to wish Diwali to Troops on Wednesday

In this remote part of the country, there are military posts still separated from the nearest road head by a distance of 30 to 35 kilometers. The sparsely populated area has the average density of about one man per kilometre. While infrastructure has been a major challenge in the area, a major push has been given to taking the road to the forward areas in recent years. The high altitude post of Andrala Omkar is still 35-40 km from the nearest road head.
