Even as the final hearing on Vijay Mallya's extradition case is underway in London's Westminster Magistrates' court, Vijay Mallya played a panic gimmick in front of the reporters during the recess, saying he met 'Finance Minister before leaving' and offered to settle. However, when he was prodded further and asked to elaborate on the said meeting, he refused to divulge details. As soon as Mallya made those statements, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took a jibe at the Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, and asked "What transpired in these meetings? People want to know".

Kejriwal didn't just limit his scorn towards Jaitley, instead he directed some of it to the Prime Minister Modi alleging that fraud-accused diamantaire Nirav Modi met with him before fleeing the country.

Here's his tweet:

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has hit back at Mallya rubbishing his statement that he never gave any appointment to the latter since 2014.

"The statement is factually false in as much as it does not reflect truth. Since 2014, I have never given him any appointment to meet me and the question of his having met me does not arise," said Arun Jaitley in a statement.

"However, since he was a Member of Rajya Sabha and he occasionally attended the House, he misused that privilege on one occasion while I was walking out of the House to go to my room. He paced up to catch up with me and while walking uttered a sentence that ”I am making an offer of settlement”. Having been fully briefed about his earlier “bluff offers”, without allowing him to proceed with the conversation, I curtly told him 'there was no point talking to me and he must make offers to his bankers," he added.

Vijay Mallya, an alleged financial offender, is facing charges of bank fraud and money laundering in India, amounting to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore. He was arrested by the Scotland Yard on an extradition warrant in April this year
