Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah on Tuesday will address a massive rally in Malda, West Bengal as he kicks off his party's 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign in the state.
The rally will be held after months of standoff between the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government and the BJP.
The BJP had initially intended to conduct a series of Rath Yatras in the state, but were denied permission by the West Bengal government.
They had approached the Calcutta High Court, whose one-judge bench on December 20 ruled against the state government and allowed BJP to go ahead with its Rath Yatras. But just a day later, a two-judge bench of the court ruled against the earlier judgment.
Following that, the party approached the Supreme Court, which heard the matter on January 15, and ruled that the BJP cannot go ahead with the Rath Yatras for the time being, though, can conduct a series of rallies in the state.
But the tiff between the BJP and TMC did not conclude there.
On Monday, the state government denied BJP the permission to land Amit Shah's chopper in the Malda district, following which, heated words were exchanged between the two parties.
Later in the day, the local administration granted BJP the permission to land the helicopter on January 22 at the ground opposite to Hotel Golden Park in Malda.
