DISRESPECTFUL: Rahul Gandhi Stops Sonia Gandhi From Applauding In The Parliament While President Kovind Talks About Surgical Strikes In His Address

President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the joint parliamentary session of both the houses on June 20, first after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections 2019 and after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's second term. As the session began, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi was seen using his phone.

President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the joint parliamentary session of both the houses on June 20. As the session began, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi was seen using his phone. Following which he was caught on camera stopping his mother UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi from clapping. Moreover, he also tried to chat with his mother, showcasing utter disrespect for the President's address. 

After the ceremonial proceedings, President Ram Nath Kovind began his address saying:  "In this Lok Sabha elections, more than 61 crore citizens cast their vote and set a new record. The people of India gave a clear mandate. The government is working for 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'."

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all the other ministers including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were listening to the President carefully, Rahul Gandhi who was seated beside UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was seen with his head slightly down and looking at his phone. Sonia Gandhi was hearing to the address by the President. 

Soon after, while Sonia Gandhi was thumping the bench to show support to the address by President Kovind when he spoke about the surgical strikes, the Congress chief stops his mother from clapping. In yet another visual, during the President's address, Rahul Gandhi was seen chatting with his mother. 

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi created a protocol error as the members of the 17th Lok Sabha took oath into office. He forgot to sign the register after taking the oath, before being called back to do the needful.

Visuals show that after being called upon to take oath into office, Rahul Gandhi proceeds to between the aisle amidst cheers. While an official stands up to remind him to sign the register, Gandhi is seen hurrying towards the podium to administer his oath. After swearing-in, he is seen proceeding back to his seat, before being called back to sign his name in the register. After signing his name, Gandhi then proceeds to shake the hand of Brijbhushan Sharan Singh who occupied the speaker's chair.
