Dr Subramanian Swamy shared his two cents on the row created by the Opposition over US President Donald Trump's false claim that PM Narendra Modi asked him to mediate between Pakistan and India on the Kashmir issue.

He made the statement outside the Oval Office with Pakistan PM Imran Khan sitting across him on Monday. The Ministry of External Affairs gave a statement soon that the Kashmir issue remains a bilateral one between both India and Pakistan adding that India will only go ahead with talks only if the neighbouring country takes action on terrorism emanating from its soil. The External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also made a statement on these lines in the Parliament. However, the Opposition, led by Congress chairman Sonia Gandhi, has demanded that PM Narendra Modi give a clarification himself.

Dr Swamy said that as per his knowledge through his contacts in the United States, PM Narendra Modi did not make any such request to Donald Trump and he opines that the Prime Minister will never say such a thing. He also called Sonia Gandhi's attack on the Centre menacing and termed it as 'ominous'.

A huge uproar took place in the Lok Sabha over Trump's blatant lie about PM asking him to mediate in the Kashmir issue. EAM Jaishankar was made to repeat his statement twice as the Opposition created a ruckus drowning out his voice. The Speaker, Om Birla, allowed Union Minister Jaishankar to read out the statement again after an angry Home Minister Amit Shah intervened and requested for it.
