After the chatter over Congress, president Rahul Gandhi's resignation from his post has died down, former Union minister and Hockey Olympian Aslam Sher Khan, has offered to step into Gandhi's shoes and lead the grand old party saying he will no stone unturned.

He has written two letters expressing his wishes. The first letter is dated 27 May and addressed to Rahul Gandhi while the other letter was addressed to all Congress party members and special invitees to the Congress working committee.

Letter to Rahul Gandhi:

In this letter, he states that he resonates with Gandhi's sentiments of offering to resign as party chief and that a non-Gandhi member leads the party while offering his services as the Congress president for only two years.

He further explains how his experience as a politician and hockey player has helped him in resolving his decision to lead the Congress party. He details two incidents to emphasize his experience -  A semi-final hockey match in the 1975 World Cup and handling the portfolio of minority affairs in the V.Narasimha Rao-led cabinet, post-Babri Masjid demolition.  He added that the former Prime Minister had regretted not bringing him onboard 2 years earlier, saying that 'they could have formed government'.

Letter to Congress members:

In this letter, he states that the Congress not having an official Opposition position in the Lok Sabha is a grave injustice to the nation. He adds that the need of the hour is an equalizer to the 303-seat strong BJP and has assured that he will leave no stone unturned in bringing the Congress back to the hearts of the masses in two years time.

Here are his letters:

Khan is a former Congress member and a part of the 1975 Indian Hockey Team which won the World Cup. He was also a Lok Sabha MP voted from Betul constituency in Madhya Pradesh. He was also a part of the team which participated in the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi had offered to resign from his post after the Lok Sabhas results declared on May 23 revealed that Congress had managed to garner only 52 seats while Gandhi himself lost his bastion, Amethi to BJP's Smriti Irani
