Fadnavis calls President's rule 'unfortunate', expects stable govt

After President's rule was imposed in Maharashtra over a 20-day long political impasse, BJP's Devendra Fadnavis called the imposition 'very unfortunate' and said that the BJP expects that the state will get a 'stable' government. The BJP leader further said that he expects the other parties to take the situation seriously. 

In a press release, the CM said:

It is very unfortunate that no government has been formed in Maharashtra and the occasion of impeachment of the President is imposed on the state, despite the people giving very clear mandate. However, we expect that the state will get a stable government soon.

The Mahayuti had received a very clear mandate in the recent assembly elections. However, the government could not be formed in the state and thus we had to face the presidency. Today, the state has many questions.

Above all, our victim is in trouble due to the untimely rains. Due to the political instability in the state, the result will be in the state ‍ This investment will be adversely affected. The day-to-day functioning of the government will be affected and with this option the public is at a disadvantage. Therefore, I expect that all parties will take this situation seriously and we expect that the state will get a stable government soon.

In a press brief over the unfolding events, BJP leader Narayan Rane said, "NCP-Congress are trying to make a fool out of Shiv Sena." Further stating that the BJP is trying to form a government in the state, after their refusal on Sunday following a power tussle with their ally Shiv Sena. "BJP will try to form the government. Devendra Fadnavis is putting in all efforts in this direction," Narayan Rane said. 

President's rule

President Ram Nath Kovind, on Tuesday, accepted the Maharashtra Governor's recommendation and implemented President's rule in the state. Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has confirmed that now Maharashtra assembly is under suspended animation after the President officially signed the order. If no party stakes claim within six months, fresh elections will be held in the state.

The saffron alliance swept Maharashtra on October 24, winning a combined tally of 161 (BJP- 105, Sena -56), but is yet to put its majority to use. Meanwhile, the 'Maha- Agadhi' alliance (NCP-54, Congress-44) bagged 98 seats in total. The halfway mark is 145.
