FIR Lodged Against Bihar BJP President On Allegations Of Cash For Vote

An FIR for violating model code of conduct has been lodged against Bihar BJP president Sanjay Jaiswal just a day before the bypolls in Bihar. The case (case no.511/19) has been lodged by SDM of Kishanganj Shahnawaz Ahmad Niyazi taking cognizance of a video of Jaiswal that went viral in which he could be seen demanding money from traders.

In the viral video, while addressing a group of businessmen in Kishanganj, Jaiswal could be seen requesting them
"to shut down their business establishments on the day of polling on October 21 and deploy their staff members on polling booths by paying them Rs 500. "You must tell your employees that they have to be on their respective polling booths from 7 am to 5 pm and get the voters to cast votes in favour of BJP and report back about the voting pattern on their booths. This donation of Rs 500 will be equivalent to Rs 5000 for me. Cash dole of Rs 500 will be a personal help to Sanjay Jaiswal," he said. When contacted Sanjay Jaiswal said that his statement has been "misconstrued."

A Case has been lodged in Kishanganj district of Bihar against Jaiswal for allegedly asking traders to pay Rs 500 extra to their employees to get vote cast in favour of BJP candidate. SDM Shahnawaz Ahmad Niyazi said: "Prima facie, this seems to be a case of violation of model code of conduct. An FIR has been lodged against the Bihar BJP chief."

RJD demands action

Meanwhile, RJD has demanded action against the Bihar BJP president. RJD  spokesperson and MLA Shakti Yadav said: "BJP knows that they are losing. They are trying to lure voters with money. PM Modi and BJP president Amit Shah should take action, if they talk of probity in politics. The election commission should also take stern action taking cognizance of the video".

BJP has fielded Sweety Singh against Congress nominee Saida Bano from Kishanganj assembly constituency. On October 21, byelections for 5 assembly constituency and Samastipur parliamentary constituency of Bihar will be held. JD(U) is contesting on 4 assembly seats, BJP on one and LJP is contesting on Samastipur parliamentary constituency.Just ahead of the polls, the video of Sanjay Jaiswal has come as a huge embarrassment for the BJP.  All eyes will be on the Election Commission as to what action it takes.
