Fodder scam verdict: Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav convicted

Lalu Yadav, along with his younger son Tejashwi arrived in Ranchi on Friday evening for the verdict.

A special CBI court in Ranchi pronounced its verdict in the Fodder Scam case in which former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav and Jagannath Mishra along with 15 others who were accused. The case focuses on the embezzling of more than Rs. 89 lakh from the Deoghar Treasury between 1991 and 1994. The CBI had started probing the case in 1996. 

Ranchi's Special CBI Court pronounced its verdict wherein it said,

RJD supreme Lalu Prasad Yadav has been convicted in the case whereas senior Congress leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra has been acquitted in the Fodder scam case.

Lalu's quantum sentence will be announced on January 3, 2018. The RJD supreme along with others who have been found guilty will be sent to jail on Saturday.

Special CBI judge Shivpal Singh had completed hearing the case on December 13 and asked all accused in the case to remain present in court for the judgment.

Lalu Yadav, along with his younger son Tejashwi arrived in Ranchi on Friday evening for the verdict. On speaking to Republic TV, the RJD supremo had alleged that he had been targeted for over two decades because he fights on behalf of the backward classes. He further said,

”We expect that the judiciary will give us justice. I'm not a negative person; I'm a positive person.”

Ahead of the verdict RJD leader and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav said, “We trust the judiciary and hope the verdict will be in our favor. Just like BJP propaganda was busted in 2G Scam and Adarsh Scam, similar will happen now”
