Gandhi-loyalist Sanjay Singh Joins BJP, Says 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas' More Than Just Slogans For Narendra Modi'

In a huge setback to Congress and embarrassment to Rahul Gandhi, party's former Amethi strongman and ex-Gandhi loyalist has joined the BJP. Singh and his partner Ameeta have both joined the party in the presence of working President JP Nadda at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.

"Under the leadership of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah we have joined the BJP is on a movement to fulfill the dreams of the people, to reposition India's global status as superpower. I am sure we will contribute towards the Majboot thoughts of Majboot party, with inclusivity. These are not only PM Modi's slogans but also his ideology, for which we will contribute. It is my privilege to work for the party with honesty, faith and commitment, " he said.

On Tuesday, during a press brief, Singh had informed that after resigning from Congress and the Rajya Sabha post, he will be joining the BJP. Furthermore, he said that he is with PM Modi because the 'country is with him.'

Singh explained how his decision came after considerably thinking, and observing the 2019 Lok Sabha elections wherein the Congress faced a monumental defeat. However mentioned that there are no differences with the Gandhi family.

He said, "It's not like once incident happened and I decided to quit the party. Congress is still in the past, unaware of the future. I have been with the Gandhi family since 1984, and there would no differences in our family relations. Congress is such an old party, I have been in youth Congress, Minister in Uttar Pradesh. I was thinking about resignation. I decided it after election after observing things. For forty years it was better in communication but its  deteriorated in past 15-20 years."

The veteran politician from Uttar Pradesh represented the Sultanpur constituency as a Congress member. He was also elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2014 from Assam.
