I hope we never see the day when we have to learn what it is to be a Hindu from him: Sushma Swaraj on Rahul Gandhi's Hindu comment

After Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that PM Narendra Modi does not know what it meant to be a Hindu, Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on Saturday has hit back saying that Rahul Gandhi is carrying an image of a devout Hindu just ahead of polls, adding that "hope we never see the day when we have to learn what it is to be a Hindu from Rahul Gandhi."

Here is what she said:

"Rahul Gandhi said that PM Modi doesn't know the meaning of being a Hindu. He said that because he and Congress are confused about his religion and caste. For years, the party presented him as secular leader but when the polls neared and they realised that Hindus are in majority, they created his image.

Rahul Gandhi during the no-confidence motion in Parliament announced that he is a Hindu so entire nation can know. Someone (in the party) then realised that only calling oneself Hindu is not enough, one must be a devout Hindu. So Rahul Gandhi went to Kailash Mansarovar and said he was a Shiv Bhakt.

When he went to MP, people told him that the Pitambara Shaktipeeth was important, so he went there and offered prayers. When he went to Rajasthan, his party said that Pushkar is important, so he went there as well.

Then they realised what if they ask about his caste, so a comment was given that he was a Pandit. After others said that Pandit is not a caste, a comment was made that he is a Brahmin. But there is no conversion of caste, conversion only happens in religion. Then they realised that simply calling him a Brahmin is not enough so they said that he is a Janeudhari Brahmin.

I did not know that he is such a learned Brahmin that he is teaching us what it is to be a Hindu. I hope we never see the day when we have to learn what it is to be a Hindu from Rahul Gandhi."

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi had said PM Modi does not understand Hinduism.

"What does Hinduism say? That knowledge is with everybody. PM Modi says he is a Hindu. but he does not understand the basic of Hinduism," he said.
