Impacting crores, here's everything the Modi Cabinet 2.0 announced after its first meeting, a day after being sworn-in

PM Narendra Modi and his cabinet of ministers on Friday had their first meeting at South Block of Secretariat Building. Several important decisions for the benefit of poor farmers, small traders and shopkeepers were taken at the meeting.

PM Narendra Modi and his cabinet of ministers on Friday had their first meeting at South Block of Secretariat Building. Several important decisions for the benefit of poor farmers, small traders and shopkeepers were taken at the meeting.

Among the slew of schemes announced are the extension of PM-Kisan Yojana to all farmers, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Pension Yojna, a special scheme for Control of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis and Shramyogi Mandhan Yojna - pension for small traders and shopkeepers.

Newly appointed Union Ministers Amit Shah and Smriti Irani spoke about the BJP and PM Modi fulfilling its campaign promises.

 

Below are the primers on the schemes approved by the Modi cabinet -

PM-Kisan Yojna

PM Modi's Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana has been extended to cater to over 15 crore farmer families. The scheme has been extended to benefit landless farmers along with those who have less than 5 acres (2 hectares) of land. The scheme will now cover close to 12.5 crore Small and marginal families.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Pension Yojna

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Pension Yojna will provide pension cover to at least five crore small and marginal farmers in the first years. Under the scheme the subscribers will receive a fix pension of Rs 3000 after they reach 60 years of age.

The pension scheme is voluntary and contributory. Those between the age of 18-40 are eligible for the scheme. After the subscriber's death, the spouse is eligible to receive 50% of the pension received by the beneficiary unless he/she is not already a beneficiary of scheme.

Farmers can contribute to the scheme via the benefits drawn from the PM-KISAN scheme.

Special scheme for Control of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis

The scheme has an outlay of Rs 13,343 crores to fully control the diseases in the livestock across the country by the next five years and subsequently eradicate the disease

The scheme envisages vaccination coverage to 30 crore bovines (cows, bulls, and buffaloes) and 20 crore sheep, goat and 10 million pigs, according to the Press Information Bureau.  The programme was implemented on a cost-sharing basis between the Central and state government. The Centre has decided to bear the entire cost of the programme in rare case of departure.

Shramyogi Mandhan Yojna

The Union Cabinet has approved to provide universal social security scheme which assured all shopkeepers, retail traders and self-employed persons minimum monthly pension of Rs 3,000 per month after they reach the age of 60 years.

Those eligible for the scheme are small shopkeepers and self-employed people, and retail traders with GST turnover below Rs 1-5 crore. The age limit for subscribers of the pension is between 18-40 years. The scheme is run through the Life India Corporation (LIC). 

Those over 28 years of age will have to pay Rs 100 and those over 40 years of age will have to pay to Rs 200 to benefit from the scheme. The government will match its contribution to the amount paid by the subscribers' account.
