The political situation in Goa has been topsy turvy ever since the state went to elections in 2017. Despite not having the majority, BJP managed to form the government by getting into an alliance with other parties. But ever since then, much of the talk in the state has been about the health of CM Manohar Parrikar.

The former Defence minister has underwent medical treatment on more than a couple of occasions in his present tenure. His regular absence has meant BJP's allies in the state have been putting pressure on them to take a decision on the new leadership in the state.

Some have alleged that in order to save their government, and have numbers on their side, BJP poached a couple of Congress leaders and brought them into the party. But these attempts to save the government in Goa at any cost has hurt the old party guards who had established the BJP in a Christian dominated state like Goa.

For the first time, a senior BJP leader has openly revolted against the party and made serious allegations them in Goa. In an exclusive chat with Republic TV, ex-chief minister of Goa Laxmikant Parsekar said, “During the campaign, we sensed that people are not happy with us, they would vote against us, and election results proved that our apprehension was right. We fell short of a majority, but still, we formed the government in Goa, which was not right."

He further added, "I took the responsibility of defeat but it was Manohar Parrikar under whose leadership we fought the election. Since the formation of government in Goa, BJP is committing mistakes after mistake to save his government in the state."

Parsekar has been unhappy with the party ever since two Congress MLAs, Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar joined the party. Dayanand Sopte had defeated Laxmikant Parsekar from Mandrem seat in 2017 assembly election.
