Retaliating to Rampur MP Azam Khan's recent breakdown at a rally, his rival BJP leader Jaya Prada on Friday, said that the multiple land grabbing cases on the SP leader was a curse of the tears of women have shed because of him. She stated that Khan was now publically shedding tears at rallies. She pointed out that Khan had called her a 'good actress' and was doing the same thing now. Azam Khan and Jaya Prada have publically slammed each other throughout the election campaign.

Azam Khan breaks down

Earlier on Sunday, Azam Khan linked his religion to the raids and charges against him in land grab case during an election rally in Rampur. In an election rally for the upcoming by-polls, the Rampur MP, said that in his long political career, he had not gained anything but had only been questioned for being a 'Muslim'. He added that in which he has always stood up for the masses. He was accompanied by his wife at the campaign.

He said, "If a person hates others on the basis of caste and religion then a roadside sick dog is better than him. There are chances that in the coming days if you go out with your sister, wife or mother you will be asked by the police to prove your relationship with that girl. Earlier a person on whom there was not a single charge against him has been put behind bars and is being charged as Dacoit. I have been questioned several times how many properties do I have outside India. Tell me what did I get being a Muslim?" Azam Khan said.

Cases against SP's Azam Khan  

Azam Khan on October 5 had appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which interrogated him for two and a half hours. The court has now listed the next hearing in the case on October 29. Over 80 cases have been registered against the SP leader. The cases against Azam Khan, the former Cabinet Minister of Akhilesh Yadav's government have been registered under the IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement), 447 (criminal trespass), 389 (putting a person in fear of accusation of offence, in order to commit extortion), and 506 (criminal intimidation).

Uttar Pradesh bypolls

Bypolls are set to be held in 11 Assembly seats in the state on October 21, 2019. The counting for the byelection is slated for October 24, 2019. The 11 seats up for byelections include Pratapgarh, Lucknow Cantt, Rampur, Gangoh, Govindpur, Jalalpur, Zaidpur, Iglas, Manikpur, Ghosi, and Balham. BSP is set to contest on all seats independently after Mayawati broke the Gathbandhan in May. Meanwhile, BJP and Samajwadi Party have asked their respective alliance partners to field the candidates in some constituencies. Congress, on the other hand, is eyeing a comeback, cashing in on the SP-BJP major tussle ahead of state assembly polls in 2022.
