Earlier in February, Kamal Haasan announced that his Makkal Needhi Maiam would contest all the seats in Tamil Nadu on its own in the coming Lok Sabha polls, indicating a shift in its policy to forge alliances.  He had also announced that his party would contest the Lok Sabha polls in alliance with like-minded parties.

"We are trying to serve good for the people with clean hands. We are trying to keep our hands clean by not allying with any of the Dravidian parties," said the 64-year-old Haasan.

His party Makkal Needhi Maiam entered in its second year in February 2019. He had launched his political party on  21 February, 2018.

While Kamal Haasan announced to contest elections in 2019, Rajinikanth had declared that he will not contest in Lok Sabha elections in 2019 and also added that he will not support any political party.

"My party has no support in the upcoming parliamentary election to any parties. So no one should use my photo or flags in the name of Rajini Makkal Mandram and Rajini Fan Club should be used to support or campaign for any party," he had said.

Later, the South superstar had invited Kamal Haasan to his daughter Soundarya's wedding. Accepting the invitation, Kamal Haasan attended Rajinikanth daughter's wedding on February 11 and also blessed the newly-married couple.
