The state's Deputy CM G Parameshwara has offered to resign saying that the party will take whatever step necessary to 'accommodate the (dissenting) MLAs'

While the political scenario in Karnataka remains in shambles, in an attempt to combat the situation, the Congress party held a breakfast meeting in Bengaluru which was chaired by the state deputy chief minister G. Parameshwara.

Pertaining to the development, GT Devegowda of the JDS stated that if the coordination committee decides that Siddaramaiah should be the CM then the JD(S) would have no objection to it. He added that the Congress party is putting in efforts to save the coalition government.

Meanwhile, with the Chief Minister of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy under the pressure to resign, Congress' Mallikarjun Kharge said that as far as his awareness is concerned, he is in the race for the chief ministerial position in the state.

The Congress leader has even alleged BJP's hand in the destabilisation of the Karnataka government, accusing the saffron party of horsetrading. However, the BJP has refused any speculations or accusations of 'Operation Lotus' in the state.

Even as Kumaraswamy went into a huddle with the coalition leaders in a last-ditch attempt to save his 13-month-old alliance government, the rebel MLAs have refused to back down. Ten out of a total of 13 MLAs who have resigned are now camping at the Sofitel hotel in Mumbai until Tuesday.

Kumaraswamy on his arrival to Bengaluru on Sunday night met his party MLAs at the Taj West End Hotel. Meanwhile, the BJP state unit has booked 30 rooms for two days in the Ramada Hotel on Doddaballapur Road in Bengaluru for their MLAs.

With the question mark still looming over the coalition government of Congress-JD(S) in the state, a spate of meetings has lined up on Monday as well to address the political crisis.

Current Karnataka Government numbers:

The Congress and JD(S) coalition, which won 115 seats combined, is currently in power in the Karnataka State Assembly managing a slim margin over the BJP's 105 seats. With the exodus of 13 MLAs from the JD(S)- Congress coalition, then the JD(S)-Congress combination gets reduced to 102 MLAs, falling short of BJP's 105 MLAs. But this excludes the BSP's 1 MLA and 2 Independent MLAs. With the reduced number of seats, the halfway mark has also been reduced to 105 with both BJP and the current government JD(S)-Congress-BSP) possess 105 seats.

While the BJP government may have the numbers to conduct a trust vote on the Assembly, they do not have the numbers to pull down the government which may continue as a minority government. Sources have reported that BJP may wait for the by-polls to assess the party's chances better.
