Karnataka Floor Test LIVE updates: D-Day for Kumaraswamy's government, Congress-JDS alliance may move Supreme Court against Governor

"Mostly today will be the end of Congress-JDS government's misrule... the Chief Minister will make his farewell speech today, we will patiently hear it," BJP's Yeddyurappa has said to reporters.

"Depending on the outcome of the proceedings in the House today, we will discuss with our national president Amit Shah and decide on the future course of action," he added, as per PTI.

In terms of the current strength in the house, the ruling combine has 117 MLAs -- Congress 78, JD(S) 37, BSP 1, and nominated 1, besides the Speaker.

With support of the two independents, opposition BJP has 107 MLAs in the 225-member House.

If the resignations of 15 MLAs (12 from Congress, 3 from JDS) are accepted, the ruling coalition's tally will fall to 101, (excluding the Speaker) reducing the government to a minority.

Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar rules out trust vote until the end of discussion. He says voice vote to take place after the conclusion of the discussion.

The assembly has been adjourned until 3:00 pm

Karnataka Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar also spoke about the 1:30 pm deadline set by Governor Vajubhai Vala. Speaker Kumar said that whether his order has to be followed or not, has to be decided by CM HD Kumaraswamy because the letter was sent to him.

Congress leader Siddaramaiah has taken to Twitter and said that discussion on confidence motion is still going on in the Assembly. He added that 20 MLAs have given their names to speak on the issue and they have complete right to speak on the floor of the house, after which the vote can be placed. 

Karnataka Congress president Dinesh Gundu Rao moves SC claiming that SC's July 17 order, which directed that 15 rebel MLAs cannot be compelled to attend Assembly, violated the party's right under Tenth Schedule to issue whip to its MLAs.

BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa has claimed that the party is moving a breach of privilege motion against Kolar MLA Srinivas Gowda from the JD(S) after he alleged in the assembly that he has offered Rs 5 crore by BJP.

Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has also moved the Supreme Court and challenged the Governor's letter which had asked him to complete the trust vote by 1.30 pm today.

A day after the high drama at the Karnataka Assembly, the Trust Vote is set to take place on Friday, given that the Governor of the state has asked HD Kumaraswamy to prove his majority on the floor of the house by 1:30 PM. Following the heated debated on Thursday, Speaker Ramesh Kumar had postponed the Trust vote to Friday 11 AM. Protesting against this order, BJP MLAs, led by former CM BS Yeddyurappa stayed back and slept inside the state Assembly performing an overnight 'dharna', demanding the Speaker to reply to Governor's letter and hold an immediate floor test.

In visuals accessed by Republic, the BJP MLAs were seen spending the night at the assembly - getting medical check-ups, having dinner, and some even sleeping on the floor of the house.

CONGRESS-JDS LAST MINUTE LEGAL STRATEGY:

As per sources, the Congress-JDS alliance is still hopeful of getting its rebel MLAs back and in order to avoid the floor test, may challenge the Governor's letter in the Supreme Court petitioning that the Governor can't set a deadline for the Speaker. The matter may be brought before the Chief Justice of India at 10:30 AM.

DEBATE IN ASSEMBLY

During the debate in the Assembly on Thursday, a huge war of words broke out between BJP and Congress-JD(S) MLAs with CM Kumaraswamy lashing out at the 15 rebel MLAs over false allegations against his stable government in the Supreme Court during the hearing on Wednesday. During the debate, Congress has also blamed BJP of poaching after pictures of their party MLA Shrimant Patil, who had gone incommunicado earlier, were found with him admitted at a hospital in Mumbai. 

Responding from Mumbai, Patil had said that he had gone to Chennai for some personal work and felt some pain in the chest after which he had been rushed to Mumbai. He went onto assure that he would return to Bengaluru on recovery.

The 14-months old Congress-JD(S) coalition government is on the verge of collapse with numbers favouring BJP as of Thursday.
