Karnataka: Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra wake up to Congress-JDS govt ouster, say 'democracy threatened'

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have responded to the collapse of one of few last remaining states ruled by the party. On Tuesday, Congress-JDS coalition government fell after the trust vote was held. The siblings have reacted to this by toeing the Congress line which is the narrative of democracy being under threat in BJP.

Rahul Gandhi, whose resignation as the party chief led to a series of a dramatic events in Congress, said that the Congress-JD(S) had been a target since its inception by those who saw it as a threat to their ascension to power. The coalition losing the trust vote was labelled by the Gandhi scion as the defeat of democracy.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who politicised the Sonbhandra shooting in U.P, wrote that people will have to endure the weakening of democracy until BJP's lie is exposed and it no longer holds power.

JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy's government was on Tuesday defeated in the 223-member Karnataka assembly in a confidence motion. It won just 99 votes while the BJP got 105 votes, with 3 MLAs abstaining and 15 rebels not voting.
