Lalu’s son lands in big controversy

Bihar's Health Minister Tej Pratap Yadav — son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav — was on Wednesday, the recipient of a show cause notice from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for irregularities relating to a petrol pump in his name in Patna

The notice chronicles how Tej Pratap Yadav had successfully applied for a BPCL dealership, with the commissioning taking place in Feb 2017. Land for the dealership was leased by Tej Pratap's brother and fellow minister Tejashwi Prasad, as per the application.

Following that, it lists relevant clauses from the 'Brochure for selection of Petrol/Diesel Retail outlet dealers' which are applicable to the dealership agreement in question.

Some of the points it raises - 

1. Applicants selected for the dealership will personally manage the affairs of the dealership and will not be eligible for taking up any other employment. Else, said person will have to resign from employment prior to appointment as a dealer.

2. The owner of the land in question alleges that no lease agreement had been entered into. Availability of land is a primary criterion for selection of dealers.

3. That Tej Pratap Yadav is currently serving as Minister with three portfolios. Hence, he is not in a position to carry out his dealership obligations personally.

In light of these, the notice asks Tej Pratap Yadav to explain himself within 15 days, else the dealership agreement would be terminated.
