As high political drama has been unfolding in Maharashtra post the election results, Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi has accused the Governor of being unreasonable. Taking to Twitter, Abhishek Singhvi said that all the possible options of forming a government in the state should be first exhausted, only then the Governor could think about President’s rule. This comes as Shiv Sena showed the willingness to form government in Maharashtra, however, they could not prove their majority on Monday evening at Raj Bhawan by furnishing the requisite letters of support. Subsequently, the Governor has now given a 24-hour time to the third-largest party, NCP to prove their majority by Tuesday 8:30 pm.

NCP meets governor

Moments after the Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari rejected Shiv Sena's request for more time on Monday, he invited the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to form the government in the state as it is the third-largest party. Ajit Pawar in a briefing before meeting the governor said, "At 8:30 pm the Governor called us and asked me to come to meet him. Along with Chhagan Bhujbal, Jayant Patil and others, I am going to meet him”.

After the meeting with the Governor, NCP leader Jayant Patil said, “We were invited as third-largest party. The letter has been given to us; we will talk with our alliance partner about it. We have informed the governor that we will have to talk to Congress and then we will get back to him. We have been given the time of 8:30 pm tomorrow”.

Meetings post the invitation

As the third-largest party, NCP has to declare their stand and prove a majority to the Governor by Tuesday evening, the party is set to hold a meeting at YB Chavan at Nariman Point at 11 am. At the same time, Sonia Gandhi has called an emergency meeting at 10am in Delhi. To form the government in Maharashtra and to hit the magic number of 145 seats, the NCP will not only have to seek support from their ally Congress but is also likely to need support from Shiv Sena.
