After making a slew of development-oriented announcements from the banks of the Saryu river in Ayodhya on Tuesday at the grand Deepotsav celebrations, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath finally addressed the Ram Mandir topic directly on Wednesday, albeit also managing to retain the development focus.
The chief minister has formally spoken about a public statue of Lord Ram in Ayodhya and also expressed confidence, almost a sense of inevitability, about the construction of the Ram Temple on the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi site. On how exactly this would happen, he said that the government will abide by the Constitution in the matter of building of the Ram Mandir, the decades-old issue over which politics has recently spiked, ever since the Supreme Court delayed hearings in the matter till at least January 2019. Within the BJP there has been a chorus on a demand for a law to build the Ram Mandir before the SC hearing. Hundreds of seers at a Sant Sammelan'' gathering in New Delhi's Talkatora stadium on November 4 demanded an ordinance for constructing the Temple. The seers attended the Deepotsav festival on November 6.
CM Yogi said, "We intend to build a statue of Lord Ram for the devotees in an appropriate place and have been scouting for the land. We are in discussions with architects. A statue for worshipping will be in the temple, but we also want to build a statue for the devotees to have a darshan."
Speaking on the Ram Mandir, he said that the government will take steps within the law to ensure it. "There is a temple in Ayodhya, people have been coming to take a darhsan of the Lord. Mandir tha, mandir hai, mandir rahega, there is no doubt this. We have faith in the constitution and we will follow the law in this matter,"he said.
He also spoke about the announcements made on Tuesday on the development of Ayodhya. "We are also building an airport in the name of Lord Ram so that Ayodhya will be connected to the world. We had also announced that the medical hospital here will be named after Lord Dashrath. We also want to create a dam on the upstream of Ram ki Paidi and ensure that the water of river Saryu is clean. There will also be a home for widows and orphans and it will be called Kaushalya," he said.
He added that the government is working on a war footing towards ensuring underground cabling in Ayodhya.
"The Centre and the state respect the sentiments of the people with regards to the development of Ayodhya," Yogi assured.
'The next programme, we will focus on the Kumbh mela and will try have the Prime Minister in the celebrations', the CM said.
