In a big development in the INX Media case, the CBI on late Tuesday night issued a summon to senior Congress leader P Chidambaram to meet the probe agency within two hours of issuance of the notice. This development came shortly after a team of CBI arrived at the Delhi residence of Chidambaram as a part of the probe in the INX Media case. The notice has been pasted outside the residence of P Chidambaram by the probe agency.
"You are hearby directed to attend before me within two hours of the receipt of the notice for the purpose of the investigation of INX Media case," the investigation officer wrote in the notice addressed to P Chidambaram.
Officers from both CBI and the ED reached the residence of Chidambaram on Tuesday evening, hours after the Delhi High Court dismissed the plea for anticipatory bail filed by the former Union minister, which significantly opened up the possibility of his arrest in the INX Media case. However, they had to leave from his residence empty-handed because of his absence from his home.
While the CBI and ED reached Chidambaram's residence to question him in the investigation, top sources had told Republic that the Congress leader may be on the run over possibilty of arrest, if required by the probe agency. Top sources also informed that the former Finance Minister under UPA government was earlier at the residence of Congress leader Abhishek Manu Sighvi, but left after an hour-long visit. Sources further added that Chidambaram has gone underground. He is still missing at the time of publishing the story.
Earlier on Tuesday, Chidambaram was denied bail by the Delhi High Court in the INX Media Case. He had approached the court with an anticipatory bail plea in the corruption and money laundering case against him. During arguments in the court, both the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate had opposed his plea on the ground that his custodial interrogation was required as he was evasive during questioning.
