Mayawati declares 'BSP will now fight all the major elections on its own', rules out future tie-up with Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi party

In a major development, BSP supremo Mayawati has called off any future chances of alliance with the Samajwadi party in the state of Uttar Pradesh. This comes after Mayawati snapped ties with the party and said that BSP will contest the bypolls in the state on its own. However, during that announcement she had hinted on a future tie-up with the Akhilesh Yadav led party.  

In a series of tweet, she said that there will be no alliance with the Akhilesh Yadav led Samajwadi party and her party will fight major elections on its own. She blamed it on the 'behaviour' of the Samajwadi party after the Lok Sabha debacle as a reason to rule out any future ties. 

Here's her tweet announcing the decision:  

"But the behaviour of the SP after the Lok Sabha elections compels the BSP to think whether it will be possible to defeat the BJP further. That is not possible. So, in the interest of the party and the movement, the BSP will now fight all the major elections on its own."

She also pointed out that the coming together of SP and BSP was in public interest and when both the party allied, she had forgotten the past tussle with the party.

In a press briefing while announcing the break up with the Gathbandhan, Mayawati had said: 

"We cannot overlook political compulsions. The recently concluded Lok Sabha election in Uttar Pradesh is the evidence that Samajwadi party has lost its base vote that is the Yadav community. There must be some discontentment in the voters, therefore they did not vote for SP.  Examples are the party bastion of Kannauj where Dimple Yadav lost, Badaun where Dharmendra Yadav lost and in Firozabad where Ram Gopal Yadav's son was defeated. If they did not get their base vote, how will their vote transfer to BSP? In the party meeting on June 3 in New Delhi, we have decided to contest the upcoming by-polls solo."

However, she had also added that this is not a permanent break. Alleging that the party workers of Akhilesh Yadav led party are not as dedicated as the BSP cadre, she said: 

"SP cadre need to be as hard working as the BSP. They missed this opportunity in this year's election. If I will see that the SP chief has been successful in making their cadre effective along with his political responsibilities, then we can work together in the future. The SP cadre also needs to distance itself from the politics of caste and division."

While Samajwadi party bagged 5 seats losing some of its bastion like Kannauj in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Bahujan Samaj Party got 10 seats improving its tally from 2014 when the party was completely whitewashed.
