The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Rajasthan on Friday rejected the allegations levelled by its MLA Rajendra Gudha that tickets to contest elections are handed out in exchange for money.

The party issued a statement, claiming that the MLA's allegations are baseless.

"The party does not accept donations from the rich and is run with the small financial assistance given by workers and supporters. MLA Rajendra Gudha's statement in a seminar yesterday is baseless," the statement said.

"He is making such statements at the behest of rival parties to tarnish the BSP's image. The public knows his background. He had betrayed the party in the past and when he rejoined the party, he had promised to stay on the party lines," it said.

At a seminar of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in Jaipur on Thursday, Gudha had alleged that in the BSP, tickets to contest elections are given in exchange for money and the person who pays the highest amount gets it.

He stood by his statement on Friday and told reporters that corruption was rampant in his party. Gudha was among six BSP MLAs who had defected to the Congress in 2009.

In what may be called a massive embarrassment for Mayawati led Bahujan Samaj Party, its Rajashtan MLA has exposed a dirty practice in BSP. The problem of cash for ticket has been highlighted in various parties, the most recent being the major controversy involving AAP MLA Balbir Jakhar whose son had alleged the same against him. While Mayawati or any party members of the BSP has not responded on the claims made by the MLA,  Deputy Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan and BJP leader Rajendra Rathore from the panel discussion in the house replied to him that only 'Mayawati ji can give an answer to that question.' Ranvir Singh Guda is one of the six BSP lawmakers in Rajasthan.

Guda had earlier led the BSP legislators merging with the Congress and the 12 BSP lawmakers in Rajasthan are currently supporting the Congress government in the assembly. This is not the first time charges of cash for poll ticket has been leveled against the BSP. In 2016, former BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya had alleged Mayawati's party had become a "ticket-selling factory".
