The ongoing political situation in Maharashtra saw further developments after the air was cleared that the government formation talks between Congress and NCP were cancelled. Speculations arose on Wednesday after NCP leader Ajit Pawar stated that a scheduled joint committee meeting of leaders from both parties to work out details of Common Minimum Programme (CMP) for government formation with support of the Shiv Sena was called off. However, Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat took to Twitter and said that the meeting was still on.

"I am heading to Baramati," added Pawar.

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar also said that his nephew will interact with the media on Thursday.

"Ajit Pawar is very much in Mumbai...he will meet you tomorrow. The media starts following him if he says anything. This evades privacy," said Sharad Pawar

The meeting is being chaired by the top leaders from both parties. Senior NCP leaders like Ajit Pawar, Jayant Patil, Chhagan Bhujbal, Nawab Malik and Dhananjay Munde are representing the party in the joint committee. Meanwhile, from the Congress' end, Balasaheb Thorat, Ashok Chavan, Prithviraj Chavan, Manikrao Thakare and Vijay Wadettiwar are present in the meeting. Both parties have been holding hectic parleys to work out a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) for government formation, following the imposition of President's Rule in Maharashtra on Tuesday.

Political scuffle in Maharashtra

Despite a clear majority for the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena and BJP failed to form the government after a dispute over Chief Minister’s post ensued. In addition, Devendra Fadnavis and Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray were engaged in a severe tussle over the post. While the Sena expressed its willingness for government formation, it requested 48 hours to garner the letters of support from the MLAs. However, Congress and NCP did not indicate a clear stand on their support to Shiv Sena, thereby resulting in the imposition of a President's Rule in Maharashtra.
