Even as PM Narendra Modi requested the opposition to not question the credibility of the air strikes conducted by Indian Air Force in Pakistan, former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti has gone on a Twitter rampage demanding the Indian government to provide evidence of the same.

The PDP chief has suggested there is no harm in demanding proof of the operation in which camps of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed were bombed, including the one in Balakot.

She then went on to accuse the BJP government of using this operation for their electoral gains, alleging that the party has tried to spread the war narrative to benefit themselves ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Days after the Pulwama terror attack, in which 40 CRPF jawans lost their lives, the Indian Air Force conducted a 'preemptive' operation by crossing the Line of Control (LoC) and bombing three terror bases of JeM.

16 Mirage 2000 jets made way inside the Pakistan territory and destroyed the JeM camps using laser-guided bombs in an attack which lasted 17 minutes.

Initially, the opposition stood behind the government and welcomed the operation by the forces. But in the past couple of days, a number of leaders have questioned the credibility of the attack and demanded evidence.

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh requested the Centre to give proof that airstrike took place in Balakot. He backed his demand by citing the example of the U.S government and its operation to neutralize Osama Bin Laden.

"I am not questioning the recent IAF action against Pakistan-based terrorist camps. But the pictures of any incident in open space can be accessed through satellite technology. So we should also give evidence, the way the United States government presented evidence before the world on (the killing of) Osama bin Laden," he said.

PM Modi has time and time again requested the opposition leaders to stand with the government at this hour and support the forces in their quest to defeat terrorism. He has expressed disappointment over some politicians questioning the IAF airstrike.
