Amid the emergence of rift within People's Democratic Party (PDP), former Jammu-Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has issued an explosive statement. Mufti has come out and said if the centre tried to plant a rift within her party or try and do horse trading, then it may result in the rise of more separatists and terrorists like Yasin Malik and Syed Salahuddin.
“If Delhi tries to create a rift, if they try to do horse trading, then the consequences will be bad. People like Yasin Malik and Salahuddin were created in 1987, if today they try to break the PDP, more people like them will rise,” said Mehbooba Mufti.
“Delhi has always tried to create a rift. If there’s a problem, we will solve it, but if they try and do horse trading, then people like Yasin Malik and Syed Salahuddin will born,” added Mufti.
Meanwhile, the Congress party has slammed Mufti for her statement. Ghulam Ahmad Mir, J-K Congress chief, said Mufti herself is to be blamed for the current situation within her party and in the state.
“Why she didn't gave it a thought in 2014 to what she is uttering now. In 2014, every Kashmiri gave an advice to her not to go with BJP. Now, if she is blaming the BJP or anyone else this will not work. She has to blame herself for all the things which is happening in Kashmir,” said Ghulam Ahmad Mir.
Earlier on July 8, sources told Republic TV that Mehbooba Mufti called for a meeting with all PDP MLAs who have differences with the party. As per reports, out of 28 MLAs, only 8 were present at the meeting, which indicated that there are differences within the party at large. The meeting started at 11 am and is still on.
This comes a few days after Republic TV has learned that that Mehbooba Mufti was facing a potential split within the ranks of the PDP.
Prior to this, Republic TV had learnt that the BJP was in touch with dissenting People Democratic Front (PDP) MLAs, and is pitching for a Hindu Chief Minister. Sources told Republic TV that BJP’s J-K leadership conveyed to its cadre that they will form an allianc, only if its Hindu CM pitch is agreed upon. As per sources, 14 PDP MLAs have expressed dissent from Mehbooba Mufti’s leadership and are ready to change sides.
Republic TV had learnt that BJP conveyed categorically to the dissenting PDP ministers that they will have to a different party and then have to support a ‘Hindu’ face for the CM position. Sources have also claimed that BJP has promised to include all the dissenting MLAs as ministers on fulfillment of the promise.
This came after sources told Republic TV that former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has been facing a potential split within the ranks of the PDP as twelve of the 28 PDP MLAs are ready to defect.
