Modi Cabinet 2.0: Arvind Sawant is the new Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Shiv Sena retains portfolio

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Council of Ministers took oath in the second consecutive term of the NDA government, the allocation of portfolios has been released.

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Council of Ministers took oath in the second consecutive term of the NDA government, the allocation of portfolios has been released.

Shiv Sena's South Mumbai MP Arvind Sawant became the Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises in the Cabinet, the Ministry that was previously held by Shiv Sena leader Anant Geete during PM Modi's first tenure. Similar to the previous tenue, Shiv Sena will have only have one leader in the Cabinet 2.0 

The former Union Minister, Anant Geete lost his Raigad Lok Sabha seat to Sunil Tatkare of the NCP in Maharashtra.  

In the high-pitched battle between Shiv Sena's Arvind Sawant retained the Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency by a vote margin of 10,0067 votes (12.49%) against Congress' Milind Deora, who emerged at the second spot with 32,1362 votes. Arvind Sawant won the Mumbai South Lok Sabha seat with 52.64% votes. 

Sawant has served two tenures as the MLC in the Maharashtra Legislative Council and has also been the spokesperson of his party. 

In the previous PM Modi government, Sawant was a member of the Estimates Committee, Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

Here is the party-wise allotment in the Council of Ministers among the 18 NDA members: 

  • BJP – 54
  • SAD- 1 (Harsimrat Kaur Badal)
  • LJP-1 (Ram Vilas Paswan)
  • Sena-1 (Arvind Sawant)
  • RPI (A)- 1 (Ramdas Athawale)
